Microchip Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MCHP) has announced that its Nantes facility in France has expanded its Qualified Manufacturers List MIL-PRF-38535 certification scope to include QML Class Y for high-reliability semiconductor solutions used in aerospace and defence.
The site previously held QML certification to Classes Q and V and has maintained those certifications since 1999. Microchip said the additional Class Y scope extends the facility’s capabilities to include further packaging technologies, including non-hermetic solutions, and supports more advanced semiconductor architectures for next-generation military and space programmes.
The Nantes facility also holds ESCC QML and AS9100:2018 certifications. Microchip said this places the site among its most highly qualified manufacturing locations for aerospace and defence solutions.
The facility is equipped to support qualification and testing of the PIC64 High-Performance Spaceflight Computing series, also known as PIC64-HPSC. These are 64-bit microprocessors that are radiation-hardened and radiation-tolerant for space exploration applications.
Microchip said the Nantes site strengthens its European manufacturing footprint for high-reliability devices. The company also noted that it has qualification sites in the United States and Europe, including facilities in San Jose, Garden Grove, Lawrence and Ennis, each certified to military standards aligned with their product focus.
Patrick Johnson, senior corporate vice president of Microchip’s Aerospace and Defense Group, said the company was honoured to be a supplier to the aerospace and defence industry and to continue delivering the quality and reliability customers depend on for critical missions.
