Microchip Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MCHP) has announced the DSA504RT, a radiation-tolerant, six-output programmable clock generator designed for spacecraft and aerospace and defence timing applications.

The company said the device is intended to streamline timing architecture by generating multiple phase-aligned frequencies from a single master source. It is designed to reduce the need for discrete oscillators, lower component count, cut power consumption and mass, and simplify distribution networks.

Microchip said the DSA504RT is aimed at keeping subsystems synchronised in harsh environments and during GNSS outages or disruptions. The device includes an Analog Phase-Locked Loop with spread spectrum capability, two fractional and two integer dividers, and six configurable output buffers.

Each output buffer can be configured as a differential driver using LVPECL, LVDS or HCSL, or as a pair of single-ended CMOS outputs. The company said the DSA504RT delivers ultra-low jitter performance as low as 200 femtoseconds across 12kHz to 20MHz and is compliant with PCIe Gen 1-7 standards.

The part is offered in QFN28 and CQFP32 packages and is available in limited sampling upon request. Microchip said the device is intended to support radiation-tolerant or radiation-hardened FPGAs and MCUs in complex aerospace and defence systems.

Maamoun Abou Seido, vice president of Microchip’s timing communications group, said the device can offer a comprehensive clock tree solution and help reduce board space and part count in high-reliability applications.
