Microchip Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MCHP) has announced that its Nantes facility in France has expanded its Qualified Manufacturers List MIL-PRF-38535 certification scope to include QML Class Y for high-reliability semiconductor applications.

The site previously held QML Class Q and Class V certification and has maintained those approvals since 1999. Microchip said the addition of Class Y broadens the facility’s packaging technologies, including non-hermetic solutions, and supports higher levels of integration for next-generation military and space programmes.

Patrick Johnson, senior corporate vice president of Microchip’s Aerospace and Defense Group, said the company was honoured to be a supplier to the aerospace and defence industry and to continue delivering the quality and reliability customers depend on for critical missions.

Microchip said the Nantes facility also holds ESCC QML and AS9100:2018 certifications. It added that the site is equipped to support qualification and testing of its PIC64 High-Performance Spaceflight Computing PIC64-HPSC series of 64-bit microprocessors, which are radiation-hardened and radiation-tolerant for space exploration applications.

The company said the updated certification strengthens its European manufacturing footprint for high-reliability devices. It also said its other qualification sites in the United States and Europe help provide consistent high-reliability qualification across regions.

Microchip added that it has over 60 years of space heritage and offers a broad portfolio of high-reliability products for the aerospace and defence market, including radiation-tolerant and radiation-hardened MCUs, MPUs, FPGAs and Ethernet PHYs, as well as power devices, RF products, timing solutions and discrete components.
